What is fencing?
Fencing, now an Olympic sport, developed from medieval Europe swordsmanship and morphed into a sport of nobility in the 18th century. To play, two fencers face each other on the piste a narrow strip that designates the playing area. When the blade hits the opponent an electrical scoring system indicates a point.
The sport develops coordination, timing, strategy and problem solving skills all while providing a unique physical challenge. It is a sport that can be pursued for almost one’s entire life. There are three different types of fencing: foil, épée and sabre. Each has their own type of weapon and different rules of play.

Modern version of the rapier
